To accelerate the green and low-carbon transition of China’s energy structure, advance the electrical equipment industry toward higher-end, smarter, and greener development, and support the build-out of a new power system and new energy system, the 3rd CEEC China Electrical Engineering Conference—held under the theme “Smart Electrical Engineering · Green Future”—took place in Hangzhou from November 20 to 23. This year’s conference brought together more than a thousand experts and scholars from universities, research institutes, and leading enterprises nationwide to discuss technological innovation trends in electrical engineering and explore the prospects for industrial applications.

Tang Xu, Technical Director of Guangzhou ZGSE Energy Storage Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter “ZGSE Energy Storage”), was invited to attend the event and delivered a keynote presentation titled “Multi-Scenario Application Practices of High-Voltage Direct-Connected Energy Storage Technology.”

Focusing on national energy policy directions and real industry needs, the report provided a systematic analysis of current technology pathways and core trends in the energy storage sector. It also presented a comprehensive explanation—from technical fundamentals to real-world applications—of the core advantages of high-voltage direct-connected energy storage technology.

The report emphasized that in two critical application scenarios—new energy plants with high renewable penetration, and isolated-grid systems combining coal-fired units with cascaded high-voltage direct-connected storage—this technology demonstrates notable superiority in grid-forming support capability:

1.Compared with traditional low-voltage energy storage, high-voltage direct-connected systems feature larger single-unit capacity and can be directly connected to 35 kV renewable energy collection grids without transformers. With shorter electrical distance to the grid, they provide robust support across a wide short-circuit ratio range, enhancing both transient and steady-state stability of power stations.

2.Leveraging self-synchronous voltage-source control based on constant internal potential and adaptive virtual admittance transient control, the system delivers active frequency and voltage support without fault detection. It enables online adjustable inertia constants from 1 to 20 seconds, stable operation with short-circuit ratios ranging from 1.1 to 20, short-circuit reactive current response within 20 ms, and flexible, customizable damping characteristics across a wide frequency band.

In addition, Tang Xu shared practical insights from several flagship projects delivered by ZGSE Energy Storage, highlighting the implementation outcomes and technical breakthroughs of high-voltage direct-connected systems across various application scenarios. He also discussed future development directions and application prospects, offering valuable reference points for technological innovation and project development in the industry.

ZGSE Energy Storage’s participation at the conference not only provided an important opportunity to communicate cutting-edge technological concepts and showcase its technical strengths, but also facilitated in-depth exchanges with academicians, experts, and industry peers. Through this platform, the company gained precise insights into technology trends and market developments in the energy storage sector, laying a solid foundation for future technological upgrades and expanded industry collaboration.
